CalCOFI and hydrographic databases on Nemo.ucsd.edu The workstation nemo.ucsd.edu contains a number of data sets which you might find useful. Nemo's primary aim is to be a useful assemblage of hydrographic data and to make these available online. Nemo is the primary archive for CalCOFI data, so you might be especially interested in that aspect of it. These are available without a personal login on nemo. Nemo's original support was obtained by Russ Davis in order to provide datasets especially for use by SIO students. All SIO students, postdocs and investigators are welcome to use any of the resources on nemo; data are accessible through the login "info", through anonymous ftp, and through conventional personal login. Please contact Lynne Talley (ltalley@ucsd.edu) if you wish to have a login on nemo. Programmer support is available if you have questions about how to use any of the databases (David Newton at dnewton@ucsd.edu). A. Data available through the login "info". Telnet to nemo.ucsd.edu (132.239.114.238), and use the login "info". Available are calsearch (all CalCOFI data) atocsearch (Pacific metadata: tide gauges, WOCE stations, acoustic paths) etopo5 (bathymetry) lookship (utility - NODC ship and country codes) information about nemo databases The output from these searches is placed in the anonymous ftp area and you can then retrieve them for use on your own computer. B. Data available through anonymous ftp. WOCE hydrographic data, as released by the WHPO. C. Datasets and utilities available to nemo users, through a personal login. SIO gradute students, ATOC + JIMO investigators are encouraged to obtain a login and access these local datasets. Data sets (* also through "info"; ** through anonymous ftp): hydrosearch - 1 million bottle and low res ctd casts in the worlds oceans. calsearch* - The archival site for CalCOFI hydrographic data. atocsearch* - Positions and metadata for atoc (paths, tide gauge, woce stas.) woce** - WHP non-proprietary bottle + ctd data as they're released etopo5* - Depths and heights on the globe on a 5 minute grid. levitus - Levitus annual, seasonal, and monthly climatologies. isobath - Reid Isobath set. bathy contours for the worlds oceans. coads - "Comprehensive Ocean Atmosphere Data set" 1854-1988. nodc_ctd - A copy of the NODC's high res ctd data. 72,391 casts. unknown qual. paclim - Monthly climate time series data. Pacific + western Americas. ciamap - Very high resolution coastlines + boundaries for mapping. Utilities: extracting for - Hydrosearch,calsearch,atoc_search,etopo5,levitus,isobath, paclim, ciamap toga_tao - Display program. data downloaded every two days. (X-windows) mosaic - Fancy network navigation program. (X-windows) xgrabsc - Can dump screen images in postscript. (X-windows) lookship* - Looks up official ship and country codes.
